Do you know who sent those first bitcoins to Hal Finney? None other than the legendary Satoshi Nakamoto. This transaction, which happened on January 12, 2009, helped them prove to the world that the new system works. In August 2009, months after the first Bitcoin transaction, Finney was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and eventually passed away in August 2014.
