I see a lot of people who are new or don’t understand bitcoin completely focusing on the wrong things. Instead of asking what money is or why bitcoin was even created in the first place, they look at the up and downs price of bitcoin in fiat value. If someone was to do even 2 hours of research, they will find the answers they need. We live in a time where we have all the information right at the tip of our fingertips but yet don’t want to do the research. We have the technology and live like kings but financially live like peasants.

For you to understand or accept bitcoin, you just accept the concept and the mindset first. Bitcoin is a philosophy. You must understand the existence of it and why it is so valuable. I consider it like a religion almost. Like you are trying to tell an atheist about Christianity, Buddhism or the Muslim religion. They have made up their mind already. Which is why you can’t force this ideology onto every and not everyone will accept it. Even when it gets big.

I got into a debate with my dad about it because I was telling my little sister about money and bitcoin and the differences between fiat and bitcoin. He was trying to tell me not to tell her about that and that you believe and research what I want but don’t try to enforce that ideology onto her. I understand he is coming from a place of care because he is worried about me and the possibility of losing everything since nothing is guaranteed. But the difference between me and him is the knowledge vs no knowledge. Someone who hasn’t done their research or know much about a topic will bring out their feelings and worries before talking about the pros.

Growing up, I’ve never had anyone teach me about money, the market or investing. I had to find it myself. As someone who hasn’t had anyone, I wanted to be that person for my younger sister. To help educate her and to help protect her by sharing knowledge. Which brings me back to the title of this thread. Bitcoin is first a mindset before an asset. Someone who doesn’t believe in it or thinks it’s a gamble will always think like that, before it’s too late. You can state the facts and reasonings why and they will deflect it. I guess I made this to really just yap because I’ve noticed to mostly everyone I’ve mentioned it to, instead of trying to understand they deflect and seem uninterested in how the world works.

You can’t enforce the ideology onto everyone and expect people to understand. Everyone has their own timing and they must find bitcoin themselves. They must want to learn it and understand it. I’ve seen it in this thread too. People expressing their own worries about it and that’s completely valid. But once you spend a couple hours of your day and time researching, you will understand why so many people believe and have this philosophy or ideology around it. Most people who have spent maybe 20-30 hours researching it hasn’t ever told me it’s a worthless store of value. Knowledge is everything and the more you know, the more you see and understand. Eventually it will click for the global population but by then, it will be late.

Store your HW wallet with desiccant packs or moisture absorbing beads. Or rice even simpler.

Avoid fire resistant briefcases, the hard sided ones with a key. They have tons of moisture. Enough to mold paper and damage or destroy a hardware wallet.

I've been thinking about a mistake we make when talking about self-hosting: we often treat physical control of the server as if it automatically meant privacy.

You can run Bitcoin Core at home, verify everything yourself and still expose your residential IP through port forwarding, DNS, Docker networking or other services running beside the node.

So I put together a practical architecture I've been working through:

Internet → disposable VPS → WireGuard → home server

The VPS is only the public edge. No wallet seed, no Bitcoin RPC, no Lightning secrets. Bitcoin Core stays home and can use Tor. Administrative services stay private. If the VPS disappears, the goal is that you replace it rather than lose anything important.

I also went into some easy-to-miss problems: Docker published ports vs UFW, Bitcoin Core's current NAT-PMP behavior, historical DNS leaks, what the VPS/ISP can still observe, and why a WireGuard tunnel should not automatically have access to your entire LAN.

A few days ago I made a post here asking how Bitcoin actually works, because I’d done a bunch of research and somehow still felt like I understood none of it.** **Just wanted to come back and say thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my original post.

I honestly wasn’t expecting that many people to actually explain things properly. Some of you managed to explain concepts that I’d been reading about for days in a few paragraphs, and somehow *that* was what finally made them click.

The biggest thing I took away is that Bitcoin makes much more sense when you stop thinking of it as “digital money sitting inside a wallet” and start thinking about ownership being represented by entries on a shared ledger, with your private key proving that you have the authority to move the relevant coins. That one distinction cleared up a ridiculous amount of confusion for me.

I’m also starting to appreciate why people keep saying **“not your keys, not your coins.”** Before this, it sounded like one of those crypto phrases people repeat because they’re supposed to. Now I actually understand what it’s warning about.

And to everyone who messaged me privately with explanations, examples, diagrams, videos, and general advice — thank you. There were genuinely some very knowledgeable and patient people in my DMs.

Apparently the moment a woman says “I don’t understand Bitcoin” on Reddit, the blockchain isn’t the only network that becomes active.

I received several variations of:
“I can help you recover your wallet.”
“Do you have a wallet already?”
“Send me your seed phrase and I’ll show you.”

And one particularly ambitious person apparently had a *very special* investment opportunity for me.

So thank you to the scammers too, I suppose. You provided a surprisingly practical lesson in another important part of crypto: **if someone asks for your seed phrase, private key, password, or remote access, the conversation is over.**

Ironically, some of the best education I got from this post wasn’t even about Bitcoin itself. It was about how much of the ecosystem depends on understanding what you control, what you don’t control, and who you’re trusting.

I went from “what actually happens when I press send?” to understanding UTXOs, private keys, signatures, confirmations, mining, nodes, and why the network doesn’t need one central person sitting there approving everyone’s transactions.

Still a lot to learn, obviously. I’m definitely not about to start calling myself a Bitcoin expert after one Reddit post. ????

But at least now when someone says **“Bitcoin is just numbers on a blockchain,”** I have a much better idea of what those numbers actually represent.

A few weeks ago I posted here about my project to turn a regular PC into an air-gapped Bitcoin signing device.

I honestly didn't expect that the project to get this much attention in a short time. Thank you to everyone who tested it, gave feedback, opened issues, or simply took the time to discuss the idea.

I also received some Lightning and on-chain donations, which I really did not expect. Thank you for that as well. It was a nice surprise and gave me extra motivation to keep working on the project.

Since the last post, SignerOS has moved quite a bit further.

v1.2.0 is now released, with three things I consider especially important:

Secure Boot: you can now sign an already built image with your own key. There is also a shim-based option for machines that don't allow users to enroll their own Secure Boot keys.

Stricter PSBT checks: SignerOS now refuses some transactions that could previously only generate a warning, including non-SIGHASH_ALL transactions.

Reproducible builds: the published image can now be reproduced and independently verified.

There is still a lot to do. I want to keep the project small and simple rather than turning it into another full-featured wallet or operating system.

The main idea is still the same: use an ordinary PC as a temporary, stateless, air-gapped Bitcoin signing device.

Hi everyone. I’m the founder of PENGER, a project making metal backups for Bitcoin recovery phrases. This is my own commercial product, and I want to be transparent about that. I’m posting to get feedback on the design and the thinking behind it, rather than turn this into a sales thread.

I’m not claiming to have invented metal seed storage or a new security standard. My question is whether a more carefully finished product, with clear instructions and thoughtful support, adds something worthwhile to an already familiar idea.

What it actually is

The design is a solid, 2.5 mm-thick plate, with stainless steel and titanium versions and an optional leather sleeve. There is space for up to 24 BIP39 words, which the owner records using a center punch rather than assembling individual letter tiles.

Instead of stamping the words themselves, you record their positions in the BIP39 word list, preserving the original word order. Our layout uses word-list positions 1–2048, represented on a 12-position binary grid. To read it back, you add the marked values and look up the corresponding word. This is a physical recording convention, not a modification to BIP39.

The backup can be made and decoded offline using the documented layout and the correct word list. You do not need a PENGER account, an app, or our website to read the plate. Our online practice tools are for public example words only—not real recovery phrases. We do not need to see anyone’s seed to provide instructions or support.

There is a usability trade-off here: you avoid assembling letters, but you introduce a word-to-number conversion and a decoding step. I would rather discuss that honestly than assume a compact grid is automatically easier for everyone.

What it does—and does not—protect against

The purpose is to replace paper with a more durable recording medium. But the metal grade and thickness alone are not proof that a finished backup will survive a particular disaster. The useful question is whether the information remains recoverable after heat, corrosion or deformation—not just what temperature the material melts at.

This is a replacement for paper, not a replacement for multisig, a passphrase strategy, or a recovery plan. Those address different parts of self-custody. Encoding words as dots is not encryption: someone who can read the plate can reconstruct the recorded phrase. The plate does not change what additional keys or passphrases your wallet requires.

The leather sleeve is about handling and finish. I’m not presenting it as a security boundary or as fire protection.

Why make another one?

The direction I’m interested in is a more refined physical product without making the security model more complicated: a readable layout, consistent workmanship, an optional sleeve, clear setup instructions and useful support.

We also provide free educational material on self-custody and operational security. I want that part to be useful independently of whether someone buys a plate: understanding what they are backing up, practising without real secrets, checking their work and thinking through recovery.

That is what I mean by a more premium option—not stronger cryptography because it comes in leather. The extra value has to be in the execution and the experience, and I’m interested in whether that distinction matters to people here.

I’d particularly appreciate feedback on three things:

• Recording and recovery: would you be comfortable using a number grid, or would you prefer directly readable words or letters?
• Evidence: what durability tests and recovery demonstrations would you expect before trusting a product like this?
• Practical value: do the finishing, optional sleeve, documentation and support add something worthwhile, or would you rather have the simplest possible plate?

Specific criticism is welcome. “I would still choose DIY” is useful feedback too, especially with an explanation of what matters most to you.

Please keep the discussion general—no real recovery phrases, photos of completed backups, or details about where you store them.

Between buying and mining throughout 2010, which would have acquired more btc? From early to late 2010...

It starts with a question: "who decides how much money exists, and what happens to you when they decide wrong?"

Basically, your paycheck buys less than it did five years ago. Rent outran wages. And the "safe" move — cash sitting in a savings account — quietly loses value every year. That's not bad luck or bad budgeting.

Here's the part nobody explains: when the money supply expands, the new money doesn't show up everywhere at once. It hits banks, governments, and asset holders first. By the time it reaches a wage earner, prices have already moved. People who owned things got richer, but people who saved money got poorer. Nobody voted on that.

Bitcoin's pitch is narrow: it's money with rules nobody can change. 21 million, ever. No committee can print more during an election year or a crisis. You can hold it without a bank's permission, send it across a border on a Sunday without a wire fee, and no one can freeze it because your name got flagged. For most Americans that sounds abstract… but for someone in Argentina, Lebanon, Nigeria, or Venezuela, it's the difference between keeping their savings and watching them evaporate.

You don't need Bitcoin the way you need water. You need it the way you need a fire exit — most days it's irrelevant, and then one day it's the only thing that matters.

The case was never that Bitcoin is perfect money. It's that having an alternative nobody controls is worth something — and that "something" gets more valuable the less people trust the system they're stuck with.

KYC is getting more dangerous by day. Once you'll have enough of this, have a look at BISQ, Robosats, HodlHodl, PeachBitcoin or Vexl instead.

The idea started from something that bothered me with hardware wallets and other similar devices, and it really sparked during the coldcard mishap (which shows that letting the hw generate the seed for you is not ideal for real cold storage). Dont get me wrong, I still really like the coldcard hw but the reality of things is that software bugs will always be present no matter what. Ledger and Trezor are no exceptions.

Of course some hardware wallets allow you to provide your own entropy, for example using dice rolls. This is already much better than blindly trusting an internal rng, but imho there is still one part of the process you have to trust: you cannot usually verify, step by step, that the entropy bits you provided are actually being mapped to the correct BIP-39 words.

You provide the entropy, and eventually the wallet shows you a mnemonic.

But what happened in between?

This device is meant to solve exactly this problem.

I made a similar project before this one but the word-building process wasn't fully auditable, Redditors pointed out this problem, which I really appreciated.

This device does not generate entropy. You generate it yourself using coin flips or dice rolls. The device only helps you convert that entropy into a BIP-39 mnemonic and calculate the checksum required for the final word.

While entering the entropy, the 2x16 LCD shows the current 11-bit group being built. When the 11 bits are complete, it shows the decimal index and the corresponding BIP-39 word.

For example, this is the 7th word while being built, with only 5 bits entered so far:

...and this is the final result once all 11 bits have been entered:

So you can independently check:

11000010110 -> 1558 -> security 

against any BIP-39 wordlist, even a wordlist as pdf or txt file on your computer, it doesn't have to be on paper. Indexes are 0-based !!!

This happens for every word.

The final word is the only special one because part of its 11 bits comes from the SHA-256 checksum. For a 24-word mnemonic, for example:

The 101 bits come directly from your entropy, while the remaining 8 bits are the checksum calculated by the device.

Unlike the previous project, this one currently supports 12, 18 and 24 word BIP-39 mnemonics, with three entropy input methods: direct coin flips, Von Neumann debiased coin flips, and dice rolls. Von Neumann allows to get statistically fair results from a biased coin (any real word coin is slightly biased of course).

The goal is basically to have a very small device where you provide the randomness and you can audit the entropy-to-word conversion while it happens, instead of trusting a hardware wallet to do that part correctly behind the scenes.

Bitcoin was created around the idea of allowing people to transact directly, without relying on trusted third parties.

But today, exchanges, custodians, payment companies, and ETFs sit between many people and their Bitcoin.

They’re useful and clearly helping with adoption. But I wonder if, in making Bitcoin easier to use, we’re also rebuilding some of the intermediary system that Bitcoin was trying to move away from.

Watching funds choose a digital asset platform and the framing is backwards. They evaluate it like software when what matters is who holds the keys, how assets are segregated, and what happens if the provider fails. The software is replaceable. The custody structure is not. Pick on the structure, not the dashboard.

Yes, I know that BTC appears to be “alive” at the moment, but this group should be posting and reading information like this so as to stay current with bigger picture ideas, especially if you plan on owning a house one day and don’t want to sell your holdings/HODLings.

Better + Coinbase now let you use BTC for your house down payment without selling it.

You get 2 loans. One is a normal Fannie Mae mortgage on the house. The second one covers your down payment and that one is backed by your BTC.

You have to lock up 2.5x what you borrow. So if you need 100k for down payment you pledge 250k in BTC. Your BTC goes into Better's custody on Coinbase.

No tax event when you pledge because you didn't sell. You keep your BTC upside.

No margin calls if BTC dumps. They only touch your BTC if you miss payments for 60+ days.

Catch: Better can reuse your BTC while they hold it, they just have to give you the same amount back later. And you can't get your BTC back until your main mortgage is paid off or refinanced, even if you pay off the down payment loan early. So it could be locked for 30 years.

Rates are a bit higher than a normal mortgage, like 0.5% to 1.5% more.

TLDR for BTC maxis: you don't sell, you don't pay cap gains, you don't get liquidated on a dip, but you give up custody for a long time and trust Better to give it back.

I've spent the week trying to understand the Liquid incident beyond the "$320M hack" headline.

The part I find most interesting is that this apparently wasn't a federation key compromise.

The federation keys weren't reported stolen. SideSwap says its PAK wasn't compromised. Yet roughly 4,000 unbacked L-BTC were created and eventually resulted in real BTC leaving the federation wallet through a valid peg-out path.

That changes the security question completely.

A multisig can protect against unauthorized signing.

But what happens when authorized signers are operating on state that the software incorrectly considers valid?

I dug into the Elements 23.3.4 changes, range-proof verification caching, SideSwap's role in the peg-out, the federation model and the distinction between Bitcoin consensus and Liquid's additional assumptions.

I also tried to separate what Liquid has officially confirmed from what independent researchers have reconstructed so far.

I have a decent amount of BTC stored in Kraken. Already sold some so hit my personal allowance on what’s tax free.

Could Bitcoin become the root of a global “stack of truth”?

I’ve been thinking about an architecture that sits somewhere between conventional corporate accounting, private blockchains, and Bitcoin.

The idea is not that a corporate blockchain literally runs inside Bitcoin.

Instead, imagine a hierarchy of increasingly authoritative ledgers.

A machine, factory, department, or subsidiary maintains its own high-resolution internal ledger. Those ledgers roll upward into a corporate ledger. The corporation periodically takes a cryptographic commitment — essentially a hash or Merkle root representing the state of that ledger — and anchors that commitment to Bitcoin.

So you might get something like:

Machine → Department → Company → Industry/Network → Bitcoin

Each layer can contain much more information than Bitcoin should ever contain.

The internal ledger might track:

• invoices
• inventory
• machine output
• internal transfers
• energy consumption
• payroll obligations
• contracts
• Bitcoin reserves
• intercompany transactions

Bitcoin doesn’t need to process all of that.

Bitcoin only needs to provide the hardest external reference point.

The company can say:

“At block X, this was the state of our books.”

If someone later alters the historical internal ledger, the cryptographic commitment no longer matches what was anchored to Bitcoin.

That gives you an interesting separation of responsibilities.

The private corporate ledger provides resolution and speed.

Bitcoin provides scarcity, ordering, timestamping, settlement, and an external source of truth that the corporation itself cannot quietly rewrite.

There is also a recursive relationship here.

A corporation can hold Bitcoin on its internal ledger as a reserve asset while simultaneously anchoring the integrity of that internal ledger back into Bitcoin.

In other words:

Bitcoin is economically represented inside the corporate ledger.

And:

The corporate ledger is cryptographically represented inside Bitcoin.

Now extend the idea.

A supplier and manufacturer could each maintain their own ledgers while periodically committing proofs upward. A parent company could anchor subsidiary ledgers. An industry network could anchor aggregate state.

Eventually you have something resembling a stack of truth.

Not because every piece of information is stored on Bitcoin, but because increasingly large claims about economic reality ultimately terminate at a common ledger whose history is extraordinarily difficult for any one participant to alter.

There are obvious problems:

Privacy.

Garbage-in/garbage-out.

Oracle problems.

Corporate fraud before data reaches the ledger.

Key management.

Whether private blockchains are even necessary versus ordinary databases with cryptographic proofs.

And anchoring something to Bitcoin obviously does not prove that the underlying statement was true. It proves that a particular state existed and was committed to at a particular point in time.

That distinction matters.

But I keep coming back to the architecture.

Rather than asking Bitcoin to become the world computer, perhaps Bitcoin becomes something closer to the world's root economic clock / settlement layer / final integrity anchor, while enormous private information systems exist above it.

The analogy would be less like “everything runs on Bitcoin” and more like the way Internet infrastructure stacks protocols:

Lots of complexity above. One increasingly universal foundation below.

I’m curious whether people here think this architecture has merit.

And specifically:

Does Bitcoin eventually become the root layer against which other economic ledgers prove that their histories have not been rewritten?

After any Bitcoin trade or allocation shift, a quick structured review can reveal patterns that raw price charts miss. Use this five-field log to separate market noise from your own process.

Size rationale — Note why you chose that position size relative to total stack, avoiding arbitrary round numbers.
Emotion — Record your state before, during, and after the decision (FOMO, hesitation, overconfidence).
Process fix — Identify one concrete change for next time, for example “set alerts only on on-chain metrics, not social volume.”

A markdown table with these columns takes minutes to fill and creates an auditable record over multiple cycles. Over time the log shows whether emotions or weak invalidation points are the real drag on results, rather than Bitcoin’s volatility itself.

It tries to do the thing most privacy writeups skip, which is explain the mechanism before the advice. Two heuristics do most of the tracing work (common-input ownership, which Satoshi flagged in the whitepaper, and change detection). Neither one produces a name. The name comes from the exchange record when you withdraw from a KYC account, and that one label spreads across everything the heuristics grouped with it.

The chapter is honest about the other side. Chain analysis recovered the Colonial Pipeline ransom and the Bitfinex coins, and we say so. It is also run against every ordinary deposit at every exchange, and in the Bitcoin Fog case a Chainalysis executive testified she was not aware of studies establishing the software's error rate. Both things are true.

The 2024 section covers the Samourai arrests, the Wasabi coordinator shutdown, what survived (JoinMarket, and then its own maintenance problems), and the quieter tools that grew in the gap: PayJoin and Silent Payments.

The main takeaway is that most leaks are not on the chain. Public wallet servers, home IPs, and people posting balance screenshots leak more than any heuristic, and the fixes for those are free.

Every claim is sourced at the bottom of the page (DOJ releases, the BIPs, the 2013 UCSD paper, Chainalysis's own report). If we got something wrong, tell us and we will fix it.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time on this challenge.
I built dedicated software for it and tested enormous Electrum seed search spaces, like more than hundreds billions of possible combinations.
For every candidate seed phrase tested, I was deriving and checking 50 Bitcoin addresses per seed.
No hit.
Fine. A hard puzzle can be hard.
But then Roble changed the website and described a Dropbox vault that was supposed to contain:
the correctly ordered seed phrase for the original 20 BTC wallet
a second reward wallet
an encrypted file with guide.txt
On August 11, 2026, I gained access to that Dropbox account.
The account name was:
I keep the display name to prove Roble it’s no lie.

And inside?
0 files.
No encrypted archive.
No guide.txt.
No 20 BTC answer.
No second-wallet seed.
Nothing.
To be clear: I am not claiming that I solved the original seed phrase through the intended puzzle mechanics.

So there is a PPI on Sep 10th 6pm IST.

If the BTC price is at 79500$ at 5:59:59pm and I have set a long at 79,700$ (trigger limit price) and SL is at 79,695$.

At 6:00:00 pm if the market goes up to 79701$ and suddenly falls to 79,300$, will the SL at 79,695$ be hit during high market moments like this? or will it gets executed at even lower price?

I have had a Trezor for several years and so has a family member of mine who bought theirs a couple years ago. They received an email from the Trezor domain today saying that there is a vulnerability in the Trezor wallet with insufficient entropy - likely trying to capitalize on the coldcard hack and our fears of another event.

The link provided is likely a phishing attempt - per my family member, safari blocked the website as a dangerous website. If you check your trezor account through the app, and their website, they note the phishing attempt from their domain.

I haven't seen another post related to this topic so I am passing on the message of the phishing email from Trezor. Do not follow it, always stay on alert.

Like many here, I went thruogh the early phase of trying to orange-pill everyone in my orbit... and was met with the classic blank stare. So I stopped talking about it entirely, went silent, and just stacked for the last several years.

Lately though I’ve noticed a shift. With the cost of living and national debt becoming harder to ignore, the ground seems to have changed. It's palpable with friends and colleagues at the office and conversations come up about inflation, debt and money now that normally wouldn't have in the past. Instead of leading with Bitcoin, I’ve started leading with a simple question when colleagues complain about costs or inflation:

“They can just print money to cover that, so why wouldn’t they?”

It’s surprising how quickly people grasp the basic idea. Sometimes they leave with it and come back later. You don’t need an economics degree to understand that if the supply of money expands, the purchasing power of existing money can be diluted. People seem to have an intuitive sense that money is supposed to preserve some relationship between their time, work, and what they’re able to consume or save, and watching that relationship erode hits a pretty strong chord.

Recently colleagues have been coming back to me to continue the conversation. That’s been interesting. By planting the seed of the problem rather than pitching Bitcoin, the conversation moves away from “number go up” (speculation/risk) and toward a more fundamental question: what should money actually do? The more I think about it, the more I see Bitcoin as an interesting answer to that particular problem, not because it guarantees a return, but because it offers a monetary system with a fundamentally different set of rules around supply and ownership. It appears that most don't even realize they are 'stuck' in a system that is fiat, and there is an alternative, because they never question the unit of account that they consider solid, unavoidable.

Anyway, just elaborating now on something I've noticed about how receptive people seem to be today to discuss Bitcoin when it was so taboo not long ago. Whether that's due to changing times or change in tactic... it's been much more productive way to introduce people to it. Inflation and monetary debasement can push people toward increasingly risky ways of trying to preserve their purchasing power. Bitcoin gives another thing to investigate: an asset with a credibly constrained supply and no central issuer, rather than a speculative thing that 'fluctuates' wildly as monetary policy ebbs and flows.

I’m curious if others here are seeing the same thing. Have conversations about inflation, debt, and monetary policy become an easier way to get people interested in Bitcoin without actually leading with Bitcoin? What questions or explanations have you found make people stop and think rather than immediately putting up the mental firewall? Or do you just avoid the topic entirely for personal safety, and to avoid social friction?

This is my first bear market so I apologize if I sound unsure or ill informed. I have been DCA bitcoin for the past three years now with full intentions on doubling down my DCA during the bear market bottom. For the people that DCA, do you ever change your DCA figure or do you truly purchase the same amount throughout the entire course of the cycle?

I'm planning to buy half a bitcoin or a little bit more than that. However, i have worked so hard fo it and i have been saving for this money and that's the only investment I'm making online this year, the problem that is holding me back is that lately the news full of bitcoin addresses and crypto wallets and crypto platforms getting hacked leaving ppl's wallets absolutely empty ????. I would loose my mind sth as horrible as that happens to me.

It looks like the fed's runway to control the economy by hiking rates is getting dangerously short.

As a possible solution (Tin foil time), what if the feds pull a 1933 Roosevelt gold revaluation (except this time with Bitcoin)?

The effect would be similar, which is (i) reduce the nation's debt by devaluing the dollar, (ii) reduce the real value of future static dollar interest payments on bonds for the same reason and (iii) start a significant market rally as stocks have illusory "gain" to catch up with the dollar's devaluation.

The play is rather simple:

1. Slowly acquire a significant portion of the bitcoin float as a reserve asset (already in play)
2. Announce that the U.S. will lend cash with unlimited liquidity secured by BTC based upon a 80% LTV, with 1 BTC valued at a minimum of $200K.

That's it; the debt issue is largely resolved. If the government is willing to (and does) provide that it will honor for say 10+ years, 80% LTV ($160K cash) for 1 BTC at a floor $200K valuation, that would create an enormous arbitrage against the U.S. for a short period. The market would buy bitcoin up until it no longer makes financial sense to arbitrage the U.S.'s lending program.

So long as the fed holds this liquidity open and honors the floor, this plan can work.

This alone would work similar to Roosevelt's 1933 plan. The U.S. would manipulate BTC's price to artificially (or perhaps actually by purchase volume) increase, thereby increasing the value of its own holdings and devaluing the dollar in real time. The dollar would be capable of buying less BTC for the same amount it previously did a few days prior. Thus, indirectly the dollar is devalued equal around the price difference between BTC price before and shortly after the announcement.

Who this would absolutely wreck:

1. countries holding U.S. bonds are chief losers
2. anyone holding cash
3. any note/bond holder to be repaid in fixed cash or an interest rate based upon a principal cash value
4. at least for some time, the lower/middle class who will feel price adjustments for goods and services probably before real salary/hourly wage growth matching the dollar devaluation

Of course, the chief winners of this plan are:

1. U.S. government is the chief winner, slashing its real debt by 30-50% overnight
2. any debt holder or note maker (aka large amounts of the U.S. population with mortgage, credit card, auto and personal debt; each would realize a net benefit of deflation of his or her debt owed).

Probably too tin foil, but I'd like to hear thoughts. I will note that there are some attempts at track BTC held by the feds, but I do not see any official reporting. Is that somewhere?

Fed's BTC holdings moon, the dollar thus devalues overnight in purchasing power and stocks/assets reprice upward sharply.

Cash/bond holders get rekt (volume wise, primarily other countries).

Debtors (feds and large amounts of the U.S. population) and asset holders win. In particular, the U.S. wipes out 30-50% of its debt overnight in devaluation of the dollar, while securing a hedge against this by its own BTC holdings.

the cause of the step function will largely be due to a kind of hundredth monkey effect where a tipping point of the population benefiting from bitcoin will be reached then everyone else will just sort of “get it” at the same time

After Coldcard many have started to doubt hardware wallets, and OG-s like Saifedean Ammous have been proposing simply using Bitcoin Core.

But for me, core has a huge drawback - no mnemonic seed phrases. When using core, your seed is only machine-readable and has to be stored using digital media - USB drives, CD-s - which, apart from degrading much faster than a piece of metal, are physical.

I like the fact that mnemonic phrases allow me cross borders or escape tyrannical regimes with nothing but the clothes on my back and still have all my savings with me. I think it's a hugely important facet of bitcoin.

What i'm thinking is - is there a homemade ratchet solution for safely viewing the smallest amount of information in wallet.dat that one would need to restore ones bitcoin even if all his digital devices and backups are destroyed, converting that information into a binary string and manually matching 11-bit sections of it to words in the BIP-39 word list?

As i understand, in legacy wallets one could use the dumpwallet command which shows the seed in Wallet Import Format. That WIF could have been converted into 256 bits of binary and matched to 23 words in the BIP-39 wordlist, with just 3 extra bits to remember. But today, with descriptors and all that jazz, i don't really understand how it should work.

NB: I'm not trying to make Core accept BIP-39 passphrases. I'm just trying to find the shortest string of binary information i would need to always be able to restore my wallet in bitcoin core. The BIP-39 wordlist is simply an already available, widely circulated piece of text that's reasonable to use to make that string of binary information into a mnemonic phrase.

Please enlighten me.

I want to DCA average $100 into btc every week at 3x margin. I would do this on Kraken. My plan is to do it for the next 24 months, I will not sell any btc during this time. Every trade will be with 3x margin. I’m told the fees could eat me alive.

Every base on this chart followed the same shape, long slow accumulation, then a fast release once it actually goes. The 2020 base took months of sideways grinding before the real move started. Same with the base before that. The pattern's been consistent every single time.

Thats backwards from how people usually watch this. The instinct is to focus on the fast part, thats where price screams and everyone notices. But the fast part is just the release. The base is where the actual decision gets made, slowly, while its boring enough that most people stop paying attention and assume nothings happening.

Current structure looks like its sitting in that same stage again, the slow grinding part before any acceleration, not after it. Doesnt come with a countdown, bases never do. But long slow base into fast move has held every single time on this chart so far, and right now still reads like the boring part, not the loud part.

Guys, the cold wallet hack really shook me. I have a Trezor, and yes, I created a passphrase wallet within it. However, with AI development and more sophisticated hacking, part of me thinks leaving it on an exchange like Kraken, given they're a company that can be bailed out somehow, could perhaps be safer.

What I'm thinking is this. I had an exchange go down and I got paid back eventually. I had a cold wallet scammed (my mistake, but still). A cold wallet holder will never see their money back, I presume.

What are your thoughts?

I have been DCA-ing around 60-ish bucks every month on the main chain [I have my own private address] and I recently learnt that having so many transactions can lead to UTXO fragmentation which can lead to higher fees in the future.

Apparently, one of the solutions could be to DCA onto the lightning network and then later swap it with the main chain periodically. Do you think its a good idea? or is there a catch that I am not aware of?

I swapped BTC to cosmos and I haven’t received my cosmos ever since then

The standard advice stops too early. Write down your seed, store it somewhere safe, done. The step almost nobody does is check that the thing they wrote down actually works.

People find out years later. A missed word, two words swapped, a 6 that was a b. By then there's nothing left to compare against.

Testing costs almost nothing. Use a cheap second hardware wallet or a wiped spare phone. Restore from the written words only, not from anything still sitting on your main device. Then compare the first two or three receive addresses against your real wallet. If they match, the backup is proven. Wipe the test device and you're done.

If your wallet shows a master key fingerprint, usually labelled XFP and shown as 8 characters like A1B2C3D4, that's a faster check. Same seed and passphrase always produce the same fingerprint. One wrong word produces a completely different one. It comes from a public key, so it isn't secret and you can write it next to your backup.

The passphrase deserves its own warning. A wrong passphrase doesn't throw an error. It quietly builds a new empty wallet, so "my coins are gone" and "I typed one character wrong" look identical on screen. If your passphrase only lives in your head, your seed backup on its own recovers nothing. Back it up separately, in a different place to the seed.

Do the test once at setup, and again any time you rewrite or move the backup. Twenty minutes, and it's the only part of self custody you can prove works before you need it.

But Bitcoin Core isn’t where most users interact with Bitcoin.

They interact through wallets, hardware devices, Lightning implementations, libraries, exchanges, signing infrastructure and other software built around it.

Over the past few months, I’ve been researching the security of projects across this ecosystem, and the uncomfortable part isn’t that vulnerabilities exist.
It’s how little continuous adversarial security research some important projects actually receive.

An audit is a snapshot. Open source doesn’t mean someone capable has actually reviewed the code. A large number of users doesn’t mean the project has been continuously attacked by security researchers.
And then there’s the incentive problem.

If reporting a vulnerability responsibly means hunting down a contact, waiting weeks for a response, receiving no bounty or recognition, and sometimes being treated as an inconvenience, eventually good researchers spend their time somewhere else.

Blackhats don’t need a disclosure policy.
That leaves us with a strange situation:
Bitcoin teaches us “don’t trust, verify,” while much of the software surrounding Bitcoin is trusted far more than it is independently verified.

I ended up writing a fairly detailed piece about what I’ve seen and why I think this is becoming a real problem.

A lot of people say I spend my Bitcoin, but often that means buying a gift card through a third party and using that at a retailer. Thinking this might be a lost cause bit thought I'd reach out to see if anyone had any advice.

I did a bit of BTC trading over a decade ago using localbitcoins.com, stopped for whatever reason with a small remaining balance of probably pennies at the time and since forgot about it.

I recently got access again to an omd email domain that I use dfor this, to find a stream of messages from localbitcoins telling me to log in and withdraw remaining balance as they were due to close the domain.

Logged in to see the pennies had inflated to a value of roughly £2900, great! I tried to withdraw but was told I would need to go through ID verification, so did that. The was told my account was locked and I would have to open a support ticket to unlock to withdraw balance, so I did that.

The next day I get an email from their support to say I need to contact the Finnish Bureau of Investigation, as they have seized the domain and all customer funds as part of their investigation into the site. Since then localbitcoins is returning a bad gateway error when I try to access it. Sent an email to the contact provided minus any personal info, but my heckles are up, something doesn't feel right.

Thinking I've been scammed, that the whole verification thing was to harvest my data and the email to "Finnish authorities" is gonna be another attempt to get me to pay some phony withdrawal fee. The domains for both the website and the Finnish bureau of investigations email are legit though, so don't think it's a case of a spoof domain.

Very confusing, got a strong feeling I've lost that bitcoin just as soon as I've rediscovered it, guess I should count my blessings it's money I didn't think I had anyway, but wondered if anyone had similar experiences, can offer advice to actually get it back if I can, or even just confirm that this is indeed an attempt to scam me.

I've been HODLing since 2013. I've sold probably two thirds of my original stack over time. I have been through multiple cycles and halvings and read more books on the subject that I care to remember. I have traded successfully only once and that was by accident. I have no idea where BTC is going and I am exhausted. I am close to cashing out. I'm close to retiring (pension age) and I don't need the volatility. What would you do?

EDIT: specifically, the things that trouble me are: 1. The hassle of getting the cash from an exchange into a UK bank account without friction. 2. The CGT liability - last sale was ~0.33BTC in Dec 2024 and the tax liability was something like £10k. 3. The blind evangelical ramblings in Reddit from people that have been in the market for like 5 minutes.

Okay so been using my Gemini pro AI to learn about and research cold wallets.

From my research it sounds like I want a hardware (specifically COLD) wallet that has these features:
• Air gapped,
• Open source,
• EAL6+ graded secure elements,
• On device display,
• Bitcoin only,
• Allows for dice roll entropy for seed phrase generation.

Missing any requirements?
I think I’m okay without Multi-Sig, I don’t have that many Sats where I feel I need that level of security.

- I’ll also create a Pass Phrase.

From all of this it sounds like the, Keystone 3Pro hardware wallet with its firmware flashed to Bitcoin only is my best option.

Hi guys! I’m fairly new to crypto and I’m trying to learn as much as I can before making any big decisions.
For those of you who are currently buying Bitcoin, are you still buying at these prices, or are you waiting for some kind of pullback?
I’ve been debating whether I should wait for another drop, potentially somewhere around $72k–$74k, before buying in. Is that a dumb way of thinking? I know nobody can predict the exact bottom, but I’m trying to maximize my potential returns.
At the same time, I feel like I’m starting to fixate on finding the “perfect entry,” which I know probably isn’t a great mindset either.

I’m treating Bitcoin as a long term savings/retirement investment, but I’m wondering if it’s okay to occasionally sell a small amount once it grows to a decent size.

For example, if I eventually had enough Bitcoin where selling 3% could pay for a holiday, a new TV, or something like that. Especially since we have the R50k annual CGT exclusion on capital gains in my country.

I also have other investments like VOO, so Bitcoin isn’t my entire retirement portfolio.

Just curious how you guys approach this. If your Bitcoin grows to a large amount, do you actually never touch it, or do you take a little out every now and then and enjoy some of it?

Bitcoin self-custody is often summarized as “keep your seed safe,” but resilience has several parts:

• Backup availability: can you recover if a device is lost? • Backup confidentiality: who could learn the words, now or later? • Recovery testing: have you verified the process without exposing the seed? • Inheritance and access planning: can a trusted person understand the recovery plan without receiving the secret prematurely?

Using a hardware wallet does not remove the need to think through backups, passphrases, and physical risks. Small, documented procedures and periodic checks can reduce single points of failure. What part of self-custody do newcomers most often underestimate?

I found Coinbase fees to be ridiculously high. I only mainly focusing on Bitcoin, I would buy some every 2 months, $1K-$2K. I don’t really touch any other currency. So what’s the platform with lowest fees.

My Indian girlfriend lives in England at the moment for university. She receives money from her parents for tuition fees. She says she loses around 20% in fees, which for her £20k/ year fees adds up to a lot!

Is there a way her parents can send her bitcoin?

Interested to hear what people's realistic long-term strategy looks like.

I was previously using Halifax bank to make cash deposits to and withdrawals from Kraken with no issues.

Recently Halifax has moved to Lloyds, and I have had to do the simple migration over to the Lloyds app (everything else the same).

Now, I'm getting blocked when I try to make a deposit to Kraken.

I've tried both the usual easy bank transfer in Kraken, and a manual bank transfer from Lloyds to Kraken.

When trying the manual transfer I get a message saying I need to ring Lloyds to discuss whether it's fraudulent, etc.

Apparently even though Halifax and Lloyds are under the same umbrella, Lloyds is stricter on transfers to crypto exchanges.

My other bank account providers aren't listed on the available banks to use.

I understand this is a common problem - so what do people recommend as the best solution to get around this issue?

Should I just ring Lloyds and get them to unblock this - but could it still be likely to be a regular problem for future deposits and withdrawals?

Or what about creating a third party bank account in between Lloyds and Kraken - Google suggested Revolut as a good option?

After the recent Peach situation, I wanted to answer a broader question:

Can Europeans still acquire Bitcoin without KYC in 2026?

The answer is yes, but I think “no KYC” is becoming a pretty useless label on its own.

A marketplace can avoid asking for your passport while still having a central operator. Tor can hide your network connection while your bank transfer reveals your identity to the counterparty. And you can buy BTC privately only to destroy that privacy later by merging the UTXO with a KYC withdrawal.

So I compared Peach, Bisq, RoboSats and Mostro by their actual trust models: custody, Tor, Lightning/on-chain settlement, coordinator risk, fiat leakage and regulatory pressure points.

The part I found most interesting is that these aren't really four versions of the same thing. They're four very different answers to the problem of exchanging fiat for Bitcoin.

What will happen to BTC when 10 yr US treasury bonds interest rate goes skyrocketing? I can see it go both ways… on the one hand, the return on US bonds is more attractive but on the flip side, folks may get concerned that us bonds are not longer a safe heaven and this could move investors to BTC? Your thoughts? Will US government collapse?

I don't have all the answers and I am making some assumptions that might not be accurate, but I am a longtime finance professional with 2 certifications in the industry so I believe there is some validity with my hypothesis.

In my view, the price of bitcoin can be looked as an index on the US government's fiscal responsibility scorecard. The higher the price of Bitcoin goes up, the more likely there is some fiscal irresponsibility on the government's part. So why is the price going up today? I see 2 things that don't make macroeconomic sense. 1) The rate on the 30 year bonds are down from 5.27% to 5.23% AND 2) The Yen currency has substantially strengthened today from 1USD/159YEN to 1USD/155.5 YEN.

Scenario 2 is happening because the Japanese are offloading the US bond holdings in the hundreds of billions of dollars which weakens the US dollar, lowers bond prices (which raises rates), and strengthens the YEN currency. The offloading action should have raised the rates on government bonds. The only buyer capable of absorbing that kind of volume from the Japanese would be the US government.

So you have to ask the trillion dollar question: Where did the US government get the money from to buy up the bonds in order to keep the rates low/lower?? I think the money printer is going brrrr.

Bit of a random one. I was going through some old hard drives recently and found some Bitcoin I’d completely forgotten about.

I’m 28 now and honestly not sure what to do with it. Part of me wants to sell some, enjoy life a bit, travel, sort a few things out and put some money into other investments/businesses.

Then the other part of me is thinking I’ve gone this long without needing it, so why not just secure it properly and keep holding?

Worked a double last week, pocketed some cash tips, and tried to move a chunk into my account to buy more bitcoin. Bank flagged it. Called me. Wanted to know what the money was for. I'm a line cook, I make tips in cash, this is not a complicated situation.

That whole thing got me thinking about why I keep stacking sats on a restaurant paycheck. After getting absolutely wrecked on NFTs a couple years back I told myself I was done with crypto. Took a long break. But I kept coming back to bitcoin specifically because it's the only one where the core pitch hasn't changed. You own it, you hold your keys, nobody calls you to ask why you moved your own money.

The bank thing isn't even about a huge amount. It just keeps reminding me that the traditional system treats your money like it's theirs and you're borrowing it. Every time they pull that I end up buying a little more bitcoin out of spite, which is probably not a great investment strategy, but here we are.

Curious if anyone else has had their bank get weird about regular transfers while stacking. How often does this actually happen and at what point did you just say forget it and go full self custody.

Looking to start getting into bitcoin and discovered the grayscale ETF. Thoughts and opinions on this? I'm a computer science student from Temuco, Chile, and over the last months I've gotten pretty deeply obsessed with cryptography.

It started with public cryptographic puzzles, but eventually I stopped treating them as “find the password” problems and started building actual research infrastructure around them.

So far I've built things like:

• exact independent verifiers for solved cryptographic constructions
• a scientific ledger that preserves failed hypotheses instead of deleting them
• representation-search systems
• model-identifiability experiments
• tools for separating search failure from model failure
• a research interface for tracking the whole program

One of the stranger results was reducing 362,806 short transformation programs to 14,174 unique semantic classes by canonicalizing equivalent representations.

What is one thing you believed about Bitcoin when you first bought it that you completely changed your mind about after spending more time in the market?

We talk a lot about using multisig with hardware wallets from different vendors as protection against a single point of failure. For example, a 2-of-3 setup with a Ledger, Trezor, and Coldcard (not anymore). But there is another potential single point of failure that I rarely see discussed: the software used to construct, coordinate, and broadcast the transaction. If the entire multisig transaction workflow happens inside a single software wallet, aren't we still trusting that application to correctly construct the transaction, display what we're actually signing, handle PSBTs correctly, and broadcast the final transaction? A more robust approach could be to diversify the software workflow as well.

For example:

Create the transaction in Electrum.

Export the PSBT.

Partially sign it with the Ledger.

Export the updated PSBT.

Import it into Trezor Suite.

Sign it with the Trezor.

Take the fully signed transaction and broadcast it through another independent application or node. The idea isn't that this makes multisig magically more secure. Rather, it removes the assumption that one piece of software must be trusted for the entire transaction lifecycle. Hardware wallet vendor diversity protects against a compromised or defective hardware wallet. But if every transaction is still constructed, processed and broadcast through the same software stack, there may still be a common point of failure. So my question is: does anyone actually practice software/application diversity as part of their multisig operational security? And more importantly, are there technical reasons why this isn't practical or doesn't provide much additional security?

How about 100x? I was just thinking, if I owned, for the sake of argument, 1000 BTC, would I still do the self-custody thing and keep my keys on a single Trezor or Ledger? What would I do different? Is the different thing I would do, the thing I should be doing now?

A popular macro theory links Bitcoin's price cycles to the US political calendar: accumulate Bitcoin roughly 2 years before presidential elections during lower prices, and sell after.

1. The 2012 Election Cycle

- 2 years before the election (November 2010): Bitcoin was at the very beginning of its journey, and its price was only about $0.20 – $0.30.

- During the election (November 2012): The price had risen and hovered around $11 – $13.

- After the election (throughout 2013): A powerful bull market began, during which the price skyrocketed to an all-time peak of nearly $1,100 by late 2013.

2. The 2016 Election Cycle

- 2 years before the election (November 2014): Following the crash of the 2013 bubble, the market was in a prolonged correction, and the price of Bitcoin was roughly $320 – $380.

- During the election (November 2016): At the time of the vote, the asset was worth about $700 – $710.

- After the election (2017): Post-election airdrops/rallies and mass adoption led to a historic surge up to $20,000 in December 2017.

3. The 2020 Election Cycle

- 2 years before the election (November 2018): The market was experiencing the harsh bottom of a bear market, and Bitcoin dropped to $3,800 – $4,000 (following the 2017 peak).

- During the election (November 2020): On the days of the vote, the price was around $13,500 – $15,000.

- After the election (late 2020 — spring 2021): Liquidity stimuli and post-election optimism pushed the price to a previous high of $69,000 (in November 2021).

4. The 2024 Election Cycle

- 2 years before the election (November 2022): Amid the FTX collapse, the market hit another bottom, and Bitcoin traded in the $16,000 – $17,000 range. This was an ideal entry point for a two-year buy under this strategy.

- During the election (November 2024): At the time of Donald Trump's victory, Bitcoin was trading above $70,000 – $75,000.

- After the election (late 2024 — 2025): The market entered a massive post-election rally, breaking all-time records and rising above $126,000 in October 2025.

Conclusion: Across all four cycles, the price 2 years before the election turned out to be significantly lower (at the bottom or in a deep accumulation phase) than at the time of the election itself or during the active growth period following it.

Wildly hypothetical question, please do not downvote me to oblivion. I am not excusing anyone here, kinda playing the devil's advocate out of curiosity.

So, a guy tried some random keys (coming from a space of points, a space with a reduced dimension than the expected 256 bit entropy, but that's all very rhetorical and technical) with a computer and broadcast some transactions (basically, signatures) using the keys he discovered with his own computer. That is it at a basic level, right?

He did not use a wrench attack, did not break into someone's home to steal a paper with passwords, did not drug or interact with any victim to coerce a password out, did not send scam texts promising investment returns. He is just coding on his computer talking to the Blockchain.

So is that really...illegal? I mean hypothetically, if he is caught, and he hires the top law firm in the world, what charge would stick? So far as I can see, he is just playing a guess-the-number game with the Blockchain sitting in his basement.

And if we allow (to the extent the Bitcoin advocates and Libertarians have any capacity to allow) a government to prosecute him, then what kind of precedent does it set with regard to a state's power to prosecute someone purely for interacting with the Blockchain and trying signatures/key combinations?

Are we ready for a political regime (basically, the state machinery) to come in and tell everyone how exactly am I supposed to interact with the Blockchain, that takes precedence over whatever the consensus protocol allows?

Yes, from the comments I can get there are laws and charges depending on jurisdiction that would stick. But I am far more concerned about the precedent that can be set by penalising someone for interacting with the Blockchain (a system not owned by a bank or a specific corporation) in a way that is just something the community did not like.

It opens a door to the political class to co-opt and regulate/alter the Blockchain in a way they deem convenient to protect a status quo or their regime so that any interaction outside the politically approved norm can be considered...well, illegal.

Welcome to Bitcoin 2.0, I guess, where there is a 100 page legal clause on what exactly a node runner can approve and what exactly a miner is allowed to include in a block?

Worst, seems like in this case, the whole Bitcoin community will cheer at the prospect of crucifying the coldcard thief for justice, welcoming such a possibility.

Whenever I invest in something other than BTC, I sometimes get this feeling that I should have just bought Bitcoin instead.

I recently got my salary and was deciding whether to put a large lump sum into BTC or invest it into my TFSA. I ended up putting the larger amount into my TFSA, and now I’m second-guessing that decision. I already have exposure to VT and QQQ in my TFSA (they use different tickers here), while I also hold VOO in a taxable account.

What I’m struggling with is the whole idea of “max out your TFSA as soon as possible.” I understand the tax-free benefit, but if I’m investing for the long term, wouldn’t investing later simply mean having an additional year of tax-free growth/room available in the future?

I’m 28, so I have a very long investment horizon. Obviously, tax-free growth is valuable, but I have a strong conviction that BTC could be worth significantly more in the future than my QQQ and VT holdings. Because of that, I’m questioning whether I should really prioritize filling my TFSA as quickly as possible, or whether it makes more sense for me to put a larger percentage of my available money into BTC while still contributing enough to my TFSA.

I’m trying to take advantage of the bear market, but I’m finding that whenever I choose to invest more into my ETFs instead of BTC, I feel like I’m missing an opportunity.

For those who have a similar conviction toward Bitcoin, how do you balance that with diversification and the tax advantages of accounts like a TFSA?

Hi I'm exploring the design of an open-source, peer-to-peer protocol/application for construction contracts, particularly for environments where traditional escrow, arbitration and contract enforcement are expensive or unreliable.

The basic idea is to have no central server, custodian or marketplace. Clients would communicate directly over Tor/DHT and exchange the contractual information P2P: scope of work, milestones, deadlines, drawings/specifications, commercial terms, payment schedules, contractor guarantees, etc. The complete technical and commercial specification would be committed to through hashes.

Once the owner and contractor agree, the application creates a Bitcoin contract using Taproot/MuSig2. Funds would be compartmentalized per milestone rather than putting the entire project into a single pool. The contract would define the possible states and transitions in advance: milestone completion and partial payment, mutual agreement, disagreement, partial completion, abandonment, timeout, guarantee release/return, and potentially arbitration.

The normal path would be cooperative settlement using MuSig2. An arbitrator would not be a normal signer; instead, arbitration would be available through an alternative Taproot branch after predefined conditions or timeouts. The idea is that most disputes should ideally be resolved directly between the parties, with arbitration acting as a last resort.

The documents, communication and evidence would remain off-chain, while Bitcoin would primarily be used for settlement and enforcement of the economic consequences defined by the contract.

I'm also exploring an optional second layer using DLCs for foreign-exchange risk. For example, a contractor could hedge the exchange-rate exposure of a Bitcoin-denominated contract with a third party, using multiple independent oracles.

The goal is not to operate a marketplace, custody funds, charge fees, run an oracle, or maintain any centralized infrastructure. The intention would be to publish the protocol and a reference implementation in Rust under the MIT license, potentially with desktop and Android/F-Droid clients.

I'm not looking for implementation advice yet; I'm primarily looking for protocol-level criticism.

I'd particularly like to know:

Does the fundamental contract model make sense from a Bitcoin/cryptography perspective?

Are there obvious problems with the Taproot/MuSig2/state-machine approach?

Does the incentive and dispute model actually work? In particular, guarantees, partial completion, strategic defaults and the use of an arbitrator as a last resort.

this useful in practice? Or are there fundamental economic, legal, UX, privacy, or technical problems that make this approach impractical?

Army veteran. Real name, public. Been quietly building a case for two years that he's Satoshi Nakamoto — and unlike every other claimant, he's not hiding behind lawyers or vague hints.

He's dumped an insane amount of material: domain records, old accounts, tax filings, timestamps that line up with Bitcoin's actual timeline going back to 1998.

I've been digging through it and honestly don't know where I land yet.

My sister in law keeps telling me her high yield savings account is all she needs and that bitcoin is just gambling. She is not dumb at all, she is actually pretty sharp with money, but every time I try to bring up why I have been stacking since 2017 the conversation dies fast. I get why it sounds sketchy from the outside. The volatility alone is enough to make anyone nope out of the conversation before it even starts.

The thing is I do not want to come across like I am recruiting her into something or hyping her up with price targets. That never works and honestly feels gross. But I also genuinely think having even a small position matters long term and I want her to get there on her own terms.

Has anyone had a real breakthrough moment explaining bitcoin to a skeptical but financially literate person? Not someone clueless, but someone who has read enough to have formed an opinion against it. What actually landed for them? Was it the fixed supply thing, was it the banking angle, was it just watching price long enough? Or does it just never work until someone is ready on their own and you are wasting your breath trying?

The first pause after roughly $3 billion of ETF inflows got treated like a warning signal, but bitcoin barely moved while oil jumped and stocks sold off after the US strikes on Iran. That price action matters more to me than one day of red flows. A market that needs nonstop ETF buying to stay up is fragile. A market that absorbs a pause, geopolitical risk and higher oil without falling apart may be building a stronger base than the headlines suggest. The missing piece is whether this holds for another week or two, not whether one flow chart looks ugly today. The bigger shift is that ETF flows are now being watched like a daily vote on bitcoin's future. That gives short-term traders a new scoreboard, but it also makes people forget that pension allocations and long-term holders do not move on a 24-hour news cycle.

Im 64yo and been in since 2017 - Im kind of wondering what the younger gen now thinks about BTC, I personally dont think it has the same allure or promise it once did - I also think tech is shaking the foundations of BTC - the markets have been bringing stable returns for quite a while. So there is lots of good safe investment options.

I dont think older people in my age group will ever understand or adopt BTC if theyre not in it allready. And if the younger coming up people are not seeing any glitter, BTC can fade away - the old guard - us HOLD'rs are not going to be keeping it alive forever.

Most assets become harder to move exactly when you need to move them most.

If you have to leave a country quickly, cash can be seized, gold can be found, property stays behind, and bank access depends on institutions continuing to recognize your claim. With Bitcoin self-custody, access can be reconstructed from a memorized seed phrase after crossing a border with no physical representation of the wealth at all.

Just memorize 12 words and leave.

Why is this not talked about more in an increasingly unstable world?

I’ve been looking into how aggressively some of the larger Bitcoin mining companies are moving toward AI/HPC infrastructure, and the numbers are getting pretty interesting.

Riot Platforms alone announced a roughly $9.1 billion, 20-year AI data-center agreement. Averaged across the initial term, that’s around $1.25 million per day in contract revenue.

That’s obviously not the same thing as $1.25M/day in profit, but I think it explains a lot about why these companies are interested. Bitcoin mining income is volatile, block rewards keep getting cut in half, difficulty/network hashrate keeps increasing, and BTC’s percentage gains from cycle to cycle have been shrinking.

AI/HPC contracts offer something Bitcoin mining really doesn’t: potentially predictable long-term revenue.

I went through several major miners that are investing in or shifting infrastructure toward AI/HPC. Based on the companies I looked at, roughly 128.5 EH/s of Bitcoin mining capacity could potentially be associated with miners making these moves, or around 14% of a ~918 EH/s network.

Obviously that does not mean 14% of Bitcoin’s hashrate is suddenly shutting off. Most of these companies aren't abandoning Bitcoin completely, and some are specifically talking about running both businesses.

But it raises an interesting question:

If AI continues paying substantially more for the same access to cheap power and data-center infrastructure, how much incentive will these companies have to keep expanding Bitcoin mining?

And there could be another side to this.

If enough large industrial miners stop adding ASIC capacity—or actually reduce it—could Bitcoin mining eventually become somewhat more viable again for smaller and home miners?

Or does the constant introduction of newer, more efficient ASICs make that unlikely regardless?

Curious what miners here think. If you controlled a 100+ MW site today and had the choice between expanding Bitcoin mining or signing a long-term AI/HPC compute contract, which direction would you go?

1. Is it better to use Jade Plus as a temporary signer (so it will become like seed signer), or is it better to setup a pin and keep the seeds stored in the device?

2. Regarding the entropy creation, I came to know recently (after CC hacks) that Jade Plus uses multiple sources to create the entropy: Physical Sensors, Camera Input, Hardware RNG, External Inputs (user interaction, buttons speed...) etc.. So my question is, if Jade Plus uses all of these sources to create entropy, doesn't that make it more secure than rolling the dice? Is it only the (trust) that is the case or there is hidden math behind it? please explain it as I really want to understand the math.

3. Using Jade Plus to generate seeds is safe? Or should I be worried?

4. If I want to use the dice, does it matter if I use any ordinary dice or it has to be the casino grade dice?

Is it possible to turn an old phone into a seedsigner? Most people turn phones into hardware wallets but I'm not confortable storing my private keys in the phone's SSD, even if doubly encrypted (phone encryption + wallet encryption).

One big advantage is the stealth factor. You walk through customs and you put a huge target on your head if they recognize your Seedsigner. Phones on the other hand are everyday carry for 99.9% of people.

Is there a way to use the phone solely as a signing device where the private keys are held only temporarily (either RAM or wiped clean after use)?

Of course all conectivity other than the camera would be disabled.

Question. I got into Bitcoin roughly a decade ago. I haven’t sold since other than a few sats here and there to reward myself for holding and buy something in USD. For those who say they’re “never selling” do you believe that in your lifetime it will be practical and also widely accepted as currency? Or that it will reach a price like $10M USD where you’ll have no choice but to sell?

I’m experimenting the dice roll feature on a Keystone Pro 3 to generate a seedphrase, and cross-checking the seedphrase generated using Ion Coleman’s BIP39 tool to check if they match. I rolled 100 dice rolls to produce the seedphrase, and found out that the total bits is 167 due to bias, as opposed to the max 256 bits.

My question is: while I understand 167 bits indicate a safe seedphrase, do you recommend +150 rolls, or even the maximum number of rolls of 256 that the Keystone accepts, for increased entropy?

i had a wallet on electrum and i lost the password, but i still have the generation seed so i just used that to make a new wallet, i also ordered 100$ of bitcoin before i forgot the password and lost the account, the transaction has not gone through yet, will it go to the new walet because i used the same generation seed?

Maybe they’re right. But after living through three Bitcoin bear markets, something in the back of my mind keeps telling me that the downside might not be over yet.

I already have my Bitcoin bags. I’m not sitting on the sidelines waiting for the perfect entry. But even so, I have this feeling that we might still have to experience a little more pain before the real bottom is in.

One thing that keeps bothering me is the Hash Ribbons indicator.

Historically, Hash Ribbons has flashed around the major cycle bottoms in Bitcoin. This time, it hasn’t.

Maybe this cycle is different. Maybe the indicator simply won’t work the same way this time.

But after watching Bitcoin for years, I’ve learned one thing:
When everyone starts feeling confident that the bull run is here, that’s usually when I start getting nervous.

I could be completely wrong. And honestly, I hope I am.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if Bitcoin still has one more nasty shakeout before the next major leg up.

What do you guys think? Are we already in the bull run, or is there still more downside ahead?

WARNING: NC Wallet is holding my BTC for 100+ hours. No TxID generated even after paying priority fee (Ticket: NW-150331) I am putting out a serious warning for anyone considering using NC Wallet.

My funds are being held in what appears to be a deliberate internal lock. I initiated a Bitcoin withdrawal of 0.00272744 BTC exactly 100 hours ago. To ensure a fast transaction, I explicitly turned off their "No commission" option and paid the priority network fee myself. Despite this, the transaction has been stuck in "Pending" status for over 4 days. No TxID (transaction hash) has been generated. This is 100% proof that NC Wallet is holding the funds internally and has not even broadcasted the transaction to the Bitcoin blockchain.

Support (Ticket: NW-150331) sent a generic automated reply blaming "blockchain congestion," which is a flat-out lie since there is no TxID to track. Since I pointed this out with technical facts, they have gone completely silent and ignored all my email. Stay away from this platform.

If anyone has tips on how to force them to release an internal hold, please let me know.

After a quite battle, NC Wallet finally reversed my Bitcoin withdrawal, but then they freezed my funds under fake KYC/AML, and NC Wallet is holding my Bitcoin hostage. They locked my account with 'Withdrawal restricted due to account status'.

I have submitted a brand new valid passport, utility bill, and full source of funds. Eva from support keeps sending generic excuses and ignores Ticket #150331. Completely untrustworthy service, avoid!"

I've just ordered a trezor 7 because I want to set up my seed and also passphrase. It's a Bitcoin-only trezor 7. I would like some advice on whether or not I should do a dice roll or let the trezor generate my seed.

I'm aware of the recent cold card situation, so I'd just like to get some recommendations. I have a few dice, but I'm unsure of the procedure on how to go about rolling dice because I'd like to do it correctly so that I don't introduce any human errors to the procedure. While the Federal Reserve Chair does not have authority legally to shut down Bitcoin, their decisions on interest rate hikes and money printing heavily drive where crypto prices go. True, these are wild times for Bitcoin.

We have a hardfork supposedly happening September 1st and traders are being crammed into another bulltrap. Of course all this is personal perception.

While we wait and sit this bear market out, one question now arises.

Will the new FED chair make or break Bitcoin?

1- Never sell

2- Invest 30% of all my money at 40% below the peak

3- Invest 60% of all my money at 50% below the peak.

4- Invest 100% of all my money at 60% below the peak.

5- Never buy BTC outside of these 3 scenarios.

After cold card and trezor issues what’s the next best option to store bitcoin. I’m currently using electrum

Your federal taxes will be drastically lower than a year you were employed in, maybe even close to 0% if you stay under the lowest tax bracket. You will likely still owe your state taxes, so don't expect a free ride.

That means if, for example, you get laid off in September 2026, wait until January 2027 to sell if you really need the funds. If you can find work or have a large enough e-fund, then no need to sell.

Quick comparison — selling $50k in BTC (single filer, CA):

Even a modest part-time income pushes your gains way up.

Personally, I think people should only invest what they don't plan to sell for 10+ years, but for the maxis in here whose entire net worth is in BTC, this is a good tip if you are expecting to be laid off soon.

There’s no stopping this train. There is nothing the US or any government can do to reign in the massive levels of debt to GDP the world enjoys today.

They will claim that they intend to “grow out of it”; that is just code for currency debasement. Bitcoin is ready for that and has been since 2009.

They can’t aggressively raise interest rates.

They can’t wish away the debt.

They can’t cut spending.

They can buy back their own debt to lower bond yields using money they print out of thin air which is another level of insanity altogether.

They are mathematically trapped.

All you have to do is bitcoin and chill.

In hindsight, r/buttcoin dancing on the graves of Coldcard victims was an obvious bottom signal. I remember in 2022, they celebrated the demise of FTX users while pretty obvious opportunities, like buying under the 200-week SMA, came and went. A couple of weeks ago, I sold all my BTC to buy SpaceX.

Today, just a few hours ago...at 81k, I did the exact opposite, sold my SpaceX position and bought back all the BTC I had sold.

So naturally, BTC is going to crash like crazy, expect 50k... soon! :(

The news is going nuts about the debasement trade, institutional accumulation and macro headwinds. We might have a short drawdown before it picks up again but it feels like Bitcoin is about to melt faces. Sorry to stress anyone out with this post but this might be it for the majority of us trying to reach that sweet whole coin status. Just remember to be humble and focus on the stacking. It's all about the long-term strategy.
