I’ve read this many times in various threads. It’s not true in my experience. There are various programs you can plug your wallet addresses into which will calculate it and spit it out onto the IRS forms in both a long and condensed format. I use CoinTracker for this.
If I’m missing something, someone can correct me. But, anyway I think CoinTracker is about $20 a year to generate the forms. Anyone use anything else?
